Former Rajshahi Mayor Liton Among 38 Charged With Crimes Against Humanity in July Uprising Case

Formal charges were filed Thursday at the International Crimes Tribunal in Dhaka against 38 individuals, including former Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor A.H.M. Khairuzzaman Liton, for alleged crimes against humanity committed during the July mass uprising in Rajshahi.
Prosecutor S.M. Moinul Karim confirmed the filing to the media, stating that the prosecution submitted the formal complaint to the tribunal’s registrar office. The charges stem from the violent suppression of anti-government protests, which resulted in the deaths of two demonstrators, Raihan Ali and Anzum Sakib, along with several others sustaining severe injuries.
The list of accused includes prominent political and law enforcement figures, among them former Rajshahi-3 Member of Parliament Asaduzzaman Asad and Rajshahi Metropolitan Awami League General Secretary Dablu Sarkar.
The complaint also implicates senior police officials, specifically former Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Biplob Bijoy Talukder and former Boalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Humayun Kabir. The prosecution alleges that these individuals played direct roles in the orchestration and execution of the violence against protesters during the civil unrest.
