Dhaka North City Corporation to plant 500,000 trees over five years with student support

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has announced a major greening initiative aimed at planting 500,000 trees across its jurisdiction over the next five years. Shafiqul Islam Khan, the administrator of the city corporation, unveiled the plan on Saturday during a tree plantation event held in the capital’s Uttara area.
Providing an update on the progress of the initiative, the administrator noted that 55,000 trees have already been planted. Ongoing beautification and afforestation efforts are currently accelerating along major road medians in areas including Mohakhali, Farmgate, and Bijoynagar.
To ensure the long-term survival and maintenance of the saplings, the DNCC plans to enlist the support of approximately 1,500 students from 500 educational institutions. These students will be directly involved in the care and protection of the trees. Furthermore, authorities intend to provide scholarships to these students as an incentive to encourage their continued participation in the program.
Mr. Khan emphasized that the government is committed to providing full cooperation for the city’s greening objectives. He reiterated the administration’s collective goal of transforming Dhaka into a cleaner and greener metropolis.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several notable officials and representatives, including DNCC Regional Executive Officer for Region-6 Ziaur Rahman, Akij Food and Beverage Limited Chief Executive Officer Syed Zahurul Alam, and DNCC Environment, Climate and Disaster Management Circle Superintending Engineer Mohammad Abul Kashem.
