Two More Sentences to Jail Over Radda Health Centre Attack in Mirpur
A Dhaka court has ordered two more individuals to jail in connection with the recent attack, vandalism, and looting at the Radda MCH-FP Centre, a mother and child healthcare facility in the capital's Mirpur Shah Ali area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam issued the remand order on Monday after investigating officer Sub-Inspector Ataur Rahman of Shah Ali Police Station produced the suspects—identified as Minu, 35, and Milon, 45—before the court with a prayer for incarceration pending further investigation. Although defense counsels moved petitions seeking bail for the accused, the court scheduled the formal bail hearings for Tuesday.
With these latest committals, the total number of individuals sent to jail in the high-profile case has reached 12. Police previously detained and incarcerated six suspects on Sunday, following the court committal of four others arrested on Friday in connection with the rampage.
According to the case dossier filed by Radda Hospital Executive Director Dr. Nasrin Akhter, a marauding gang armed with hammers, batons, and lethal weapons forcibly breached the healthcare facility at approximately 12:05 AM on Thursday. The assailants physically assaulted and confined two on-duty security guards before using an excavator to smash through the gates and demolish semi-concrete structures within the compound. Essential medical, registration, laboratory, ultrasonogram, and vaccination units were extensively damaged during the assault.
Investigators documented widespread devastation, estimating the financial loss from structural destruction and pillaging at 49 million taka. The perpetrators reportedly looted critical pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, two ultrasonogram machines, a generator, two computers, two printers, three refrigerators, three air conditioners, and three steel cabinets.
