Destitute Parents Die by Suicide a Month Apart in Dhaka, Leaving Five Daughters in Uncertainty

A 50-year-old farmer in Dhaka's Dohar upazila died by suicide inside his locked residence, exactly one month after his wife took her own life due to extreme financial distress. The tragic sequence of events has left the couple's four minor daughters and another married daughter in profound uncertainty.
The deceased has been identified as Abul Kalam Azad, a resident of Radhanagar village in Bilaspur union, and the son of Wahab Matbar. Local residents and family members reported that Azad worked as a farmer and struggled immensely to maintain his household amidst acute poverty.
According to police and local accounts, Azad's wife, Farida Begum, died by suicide inside the family home on August 28, driven by the family's relentless financial hardships. Relatives noted that Azad became severely depressed and withdrawn following his wife's death, grappling with grief and the heavy burden of providing for their five daughters, of whom only the eldest is married.
Sub-Inspector Prosad Kumar Chaki of Dohar Police Station stated that relatives recovered Azad's hanging body from a locked room at approximately 12:30 PM and rushed him to the Dohar Upazila Health Complex emergency department, where the on-duty physician pronounced him dead. Police subsequently collected the body and brought it to the police station following the initial inquest.
in-Charge Abu Bakr Siddique said that the husband died by hanging in the exact same manner as his wife, precisely thirty-one days later. Authorities have recovered the body and initiated formal legal proceedings regarding the tragic double fatalities.
