Young man vows to give up gambling by bathing in milk

In Panchbibi Upazila of Joypurhat, a young man who became addicted to online gambling has publicly announced that he will give up gambling by taking a bath with milk. A video of this Wednesday afternoon incident has spread on Facebook.

The house of the youth named Zahidul Islam (35) is in Ganeshpur village of Balighata union of the upazila.

In the video, it can be seen that Zahidul Islam is pouring milk on himself standing in front of the main gate of Mahipur Government College. At that time, he said that his family and financial situation were destroyed while gambling. So he bathed in milk and vowed to give up gambling from today.

According to local sources, Zahidul was associated with various types of gambling including online gambling for a long time. This gradually destroyed his savings and wealth and at one stage he fell into extreme financial crisis. After realizing his mistake, he vowed to give up gambling after taking a bath with about 20 liters of milk.

Abdul Karim, a local resident, said the boy lost everything due to gambling; Now if it really comes back, that’s good.

A member of Balighata Union Parishad said on the condition of anonymity that gambling is spreading alarmingly in the upazila, especially the youth is being affected more due to online gambling. The administration needs more strict monitoring in this regard.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panchbib police station Hafiz Md. Raihan said that gambling is completely illegal and regular operations are being conducted in this regard. Legal action will be taken if anyone is involved.
