Two Bangladeshi men wounded in BSF border shooting in Satkhira

Two Bangladeshi men sustained gunshot wounds during a confrontation with India’s Border Security Force (BSF) along the Satkhira border late Tuesday night. The victims, identified as 28-year-old Md. Shahin and 40-year-old Md. Mohiuddin, both residents of Shitalpur village in Kaliganj upazila, were targeted as they reportedly moved near the border fence.

Local witnesses and family members stated that the shooting occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. While Mohiuddin suffered a gunshot wound to his hand, Shahin sustained injuries to his back. Following the incident, residents recovered the two men and transported them to the Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex. Due to the severity of their condition, medical staff later transferred both patients to the Satkhira Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

Dr. Sujayet Hossain of the Kaliganj health facility confirmed that the men were admitted in the early hours of Wednesday with bullet wounds. Although the exact circumstances remain under investigation, Kaliganj Police Station officer-in-charge Jewel Hossain stated that preliminary findings suggest the men were shot by BSF personnel while allegedly attempting to cross the border illegally into Bangladesh.

Authorities are currently working to pinpoint the precise location of the shooting, which remains unclear. Lieutenant Colonel Rajib Hossain, commander of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Nildumur battalion (17 BGB), stated that he had not yet received formal reports of the incident but pledged to launch an inquiry. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Ashiqur Rahman, commander of the 33 BGB, noted that officials are coordinating across several BGB sectors, including riverine units operating near the Sundarbans, to determine the exact site of the encounter.
