Jagannath University to implement GPS tracking across transport fleet to boost operational efficiency

Jagannath University has initiated a project to integrate GPS-based tracking systems across its fleet of 17 buses, minibuses, and microbuses, aiming to modernize and enhance the safety of its campus transportation network. The university administration issued a formal notice on Monday inviting experienced service providers to submit proposals for the project.
According to the university’s Transport Administrator, Tareq Bin Atiq, the new system is designed to provide real-time monitoring of vehicle locations, speed, and mileage. The technology suite will include an Inertia Navigation System (INS) to track performance, along with the capability to generate detailed fleet reports in Excel and PDF formats on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
The proposed safety enhancements also feature “panic buttons” that allow drivers to send emergency alerts to designated contacts, alongside live traffic updates and a dedicated 24-hour helpline. These measures are intended to optimize fleet management and ensure greater accountability within the university’s transport operations.
Interested firms are required to submit written applications on their company letterheads, accompanied by proof of professional experience, to the office of the Transport Administrator by July 2, 2026.
Speaking to the media, Tareq Bin Atiq emphasized that the project will significantly improve transparency and oversight. He noted that the university intends to roll out the technology in phases, eventually covering every vehicle in the fleet, and confirmed that the administration is currently vetting several firms that have already expressed interest in the contract.
