Toddler killed, six injured in Rangamati electric rickshaw accident

A two-year-old boy was killed and six others were injured on Monday morning when an electric rickshaw overturned in the Baittapara area of Longadu, Rangamati.
The victim, identified as Md. Aslam, was traveling with his family at the time of the accident. Local authorities reported that the child’s parents, Al-Amin and Yasmin Begum, along with his siblings, Akhi and Mohammad Abdullah, were among the injured. The group was returning home to Mirpara following a visit to relatives in the Kalu Majhir Tila area.

The incident also involved nine-year-old Hafizur Rahman, a local madrasa student, and his grandfather, Abdul Rashid, who had boarded the vehicle shortly before the crash. According to witnesses and police reports, the driver lost control of the electric rickshaw as it traversed the Baittapara route, causing the vehicle to flip and trapping the passengers underneath.
Emergency responders transported all seven passengers to the Rangamati General Hospital. Upon arrival, physicians declared the toddler dead. Dr. Shaukat Akbar Khan, the hospital’s resident medical officer, confirmed that the boy had succumbed to his injuries before reaching the facility.

Of the survivors, five individuals remain hospitalized for treatment, while one person was released following primary medical care. Local police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
