Three dead, seven injured in bus-minibus collision in Chattogram

A head-on collision between a bus and a passenger vehicle in Chittagong’s Karnaphuli upazila on Thursday left three people dead and at least seven others injured. The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway in the Shikalbaha area during the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday.

According to witnesses, the collision involved a Patiya-bound passenger vehicle—locally known as a laguna—and an Eagle Paribahan bus traveling toward Chittagong from Cox’s Bazar. The impact left the smaller vehicle heavily damaged, with debris strewn across the roadway as local residents rushed to the scene to extract trapped victims from the wreckage.

Alauddin Talukdar, a sub-inspector at the Chittagong Medical College Hospital police outpost, confirmed that 10 individuals were transported to the facility for emergency treatment. Upon arrival, medical personnel declared three of the victims dead. The identities of the deceased remain unknown, while the surviving passengers continue to receive medical care at the hospital.

Law enforcement officers from the Karnaphuli Police Station secured the scene and impounded both vehicles involved in the crash. Sub-Inspector Paritosh Das stated that both drivers fled the scene immediately following the accident, and an investigation into the cause of the collision is currently underway.

The incident caused temporary traffic congestion on the busy highway. Authorities, with the assistance of local volunteers, cleared the damaged vehicles from the road, eventually restoring normal traffic flow.
