Third body recovered from Meghna River following Narsingdi factional clashes

Police recovered the body of a third victim from the Meghna River in Narsingdi’s Raipura upazila on Thursday, following a violent clash between rival factions earlier this week. The body of 32-year-old Latif Molla, a Malaysia expatriate who had returned home only last week, was discovered near Haripur village at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Molla had been reported missing since Tuesday, when a prolonged and bloody confrontation erupted between groups led by local figures Nazim Uddin and Alal Munshi. The skirmish, which involved the use of spears, homemade weapons, and firearms, also resulted in the destruction and burning of several homes. With the discovery of Molla’s remains, the death toll from the fighting has reached three, following the earlier recovery of bodies belonging to 22-year-old Onik and 37-year-old Kawsar Ahmed. Local residents have expressed concern that other individuals remain missing.

According to local sources and police reports, the violence originated from long-standing hostilities between the two factions. Supporters of Alal Munshi, who had been residing outside the area for an extended period, allegedly returned by speedboat on Tuesday morning alongside hired armed men to launch a surprise attack on Nazim Uddin’s faction. This prompted a violent, hours-long engagement between the two groups.
Molla’s family identified the body after local villagers spotted it floating in the Meghna River and towed it to the shore. His brother-in-law, Robi Mia, alleged that Molla had been participating in the conflict when he was attacked on Tuesday morning, after which his assailants reportedly disposed of his body in the river.

Raipura Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Probir Kumar Ghosh confirmed that the body has been sent to the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. While initial inspections revealed no visible signs of trauma, authorities stated that the cause of death will be determined following the medical examination. The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the clash and the subsequent disappearances.
