On the eve of Rabindranath Tagore’s 165th birthday, the female characters of Kabiguru’s stories and novels and the women of Tagore family were seen in the event organized to remember him.
The characters of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore’s novels, stories and plays appeared in reality. They were accompanied by the women of Kolkata’s famous Jorasanko Thakurbari. On Thursday evening, the ‘La Vita Banquet Hall’ of the capital’s Lake Shore Hotel opened their doors. On the eve of the poet’s 165th birthday, the female characters of the poet’s stories and the women of Thakurbari were seen in the program called ‘Nab Anande Jago’ to remember him. It was accompanied by the poet’s song and dance performance.

At the beginning of the evening program, the Indian High Commissioner Prannoy Kumar Verma said that the poet Rabindranath Tagore is the seat of common cultural heritage and respect and love between the people of India and Bangladesh. At the same time, he exists as a link between the people of both the countries. His song is the national anthem of both countries. On his birthday, he is being paid tribute through this event.

Fashion Design Council Bangladesh president Mahin Khan welcomed the audience and said that the women of Thakurbari are being specially remembered on the poet’s birthday. Because the women of Thakurbari played a leading role in the women’s awakening in the 19th century. Along with this, significant female characters from the creation of the poet will also be highlighted through the clothes and decorations of that time.
Ashanur Rahman, DMD of City Bank, said that Rabindranath Tagore remains the legacy of the common cultural heritage of the people of the two Bengals. As long as the Bengali language exists, he will remain in the hearts of the people of Bengal.
The stage was arranged in the pattern of the Thakurbari of Jorasanko. Musicians and Bachich artists sat there and performed readings and recitations from the poet’s songs, compositions. Along with the performance, women of different characters walked on the ramp in front of the stage. Sometimes there was dancing.
The performance started with the ensemble singing ‘Nab Anande Jago’. After that, the models came on the stage dressed as the poet’s two daughters-in-law Gnandanandini Devi and Kadambari Devi. Two women came to the ramp with one song each. Swarnakumari Devi and his wife Mrinalini Devi, the poet’s elder sister, came with the song ‘Aaj Bharar Raat’. In this way, poet’s two daughters Madhurilta and Renuka, daughter-in-law Pratima Devi and various women of Thakurbari came to the ramp periodically. Among them were Indira Devi Choudhurani, Sarla Devi, Sunayini Devi, Shobana Sundari Devi and Devika Rani Choudhurani.
Then the female characters created by Kabir came on the ramp. Among them were Bimla of Gharre-Baire novel, Giribala of Manbhanjan, Kumidini of Communication, Mrinal of Spriter Patra, Charulata of Nastneed, Hemanlini of Naukadubi and many others.
Apart from this, dance performance was accompanied by the songs of Chandalika, Chitrangada, Shyama Dance and Padavali by Bhanusingha.
Among the songs performed were ‘E ki Lavanya Purna Pran’, ‘Chir Sakha Hey’, ‘Tumi Toh Se Jaibei Chali’, ‘Amar E Path’, ‘Se Kone Baner Hareen’ and many other songs. This exceptional arrangement of decoration, song and dance enthralls the audience.
