State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam Assures Sufficient Fertilizer Stocks Amid Distribution Concerns

State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam has assured that there is no shortage of fertilizer in the country, attributing recent distribution issues to farmers prematurely stockpiling for upcoming winter crops.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday following an event at the Shibganj Upazila Parishad premises in Bogura, the State Minister stated that while there is no scarcity of urea, some challenges arose as farmers sought to purchase fertilizer in advance for potato, mustard, and maize cultivation. He emphasized that the government maintains sufficient stocks of urea, TSP, and DAP fertilizers in warehouses across the country.
The government has taken firm steps to address concerns regarding the supply chain, including the formation of a three-member ministerial committee to assist the Ministry of Agriculture in managing distribution. This committee, led by Minister of Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Abu Zafer Md. Zahid Hossain, also includes Minister of Disaster Management and Relief Asadul Habib and State Minister Mir Shahe Alam.
Addressing the panic among some fertilizer dealers, the State Minister clarified that a circular has been issued confirming that currently authorized dealers will continue their operations until further notice. He stressed that no dealer licenses are being cancelled, noting that administrative action has already been taken against individual dealers who delayed the collection or distribution of supplies.
“The government holds precise records of fertilizer requirements for each crop,” Alam said, assuring farmers that supplies will be delivered to them through established dealer and retailer networks in a timely manner. He added that the government is monitoring instances where supply disruptions were intentionally created to undermine the administration and has initiated administrative measures to hold those responsible accountable.
Earlier in the day, the State Minister attended a ceremonial event in his constituency where he distributed wheelchairs to individuals with special needs, bicycles to meritorious female students, and saplings to local residents. The event, which also honored students who achieved GPA-5 in their SSC examinations, saw the distribution of educational supplies and health kits, including sanitary napkins for female students, as well as financial aid and corrugated iron sheets for disaster-affected individuals. Other notable attendees included Shibganj Upazila Executive Officer Ziaur Rahman and local political representatives.
