Shipboard diesel smuggling foiled, nine arrested, 4,000 liters seized
Coast Guard forces apprehended nine individuals suspected of smuggling diesel from anchored vessels in Bangladesh’s Karnaphuli River, recovering approximately 4,000 liters of the fuel. The operation took place near the Diamond Cement Factory in Juldha Union, Karnaphuli Upazila, on Saturday night, though the details were confirmed late Sunday by Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam, a Coast Guard media officer.
According to Coast Guard sources, a patrol team observed smugglers transferring diesel from two vessels, the Kanderi-6, belonging to the Chittagong Port Authority, and a separate oil tanker named T. Azu Shah. The apprehended smugglers were found in possession of the stolen diesel, estimated to be worth around 400,000 Bangladeshi Taka.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam stated that the seized diesel and the nine arrested individuals have been handed over to the Chittagong Port Authority. He added that the Coast Guard will continue such operations to prevent illegal fuel storage and smuggling.
