School student injured after being thrown from moving train in Dhaka robbery

A 16-year-old student is receiving medical treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital after being brutally assaulted and pushed from a moving train by a group of muggers in the capital’s Banani area on Monday afternoon.

The victim, identified as Mahidul Islam, was traveling from his family home in Narsingdi to visit his sister in Khilkhet when the incident occurred near the Banani railway station around 2:00 p.m. According to his sister, Marzia Akter, a group of three to four assailants cornered the teenager inside the carriage, subjecting him to a physical beating before using a razor blade to inflict wounds on his left arm.

The attackers successfully made off with the boy’s mobile phone and 5,000 taka in cash. Following the robbery, the perpetrators pushed the student from the moving train. Local passersby, including a man identified as Sohel, discovered the injured youth and transported him to Kurmitola General Hospital for initial care. He was later transferred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for further treatment on Monday evening.

Inspector Md. Faruq, in charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, confirmed that the student is currently under observation in the emergency department. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the assault.
