Prime Minister Tareq Rahman has pledged full government support for the local production and commercialization of domestically engineered ventilators and high-flow oxygen machines. The commitment, announced during a meeting at the Cabinet Division in the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday, signals a strategic push to bolster the nation’s healthcare infrastructure through indigenous innovation.
During the briefing, officials presented the efficacy, potential applications, and future deployment strategies for the two medical devices, both developed by specialized local research teams. Prime Minister Rahman emphasized that the government is prioritizing research and technological development to modernize the healthcare sector, promising to facilitate the necessary clinical testing, quality certification, and production processes required to bring these machines to market.

The developers indicated that once clinical trials are completed and final regulatory approvals are secured, the devices will be deployed across hospitals nationwide. Beyond meeting domestic demand, there is significant potential to export these machines to international markets.
Because the devices are manufactured locally, they are expected to be produced at a lower cost than imported alternatives, a factor the government believes will help make essential healthcare more affordable for the general public.

The meeting was attended by Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain, State Minister for Health M.A. Muhit, and several high-ranking health officials and technical experts. Notable attendees included Prime Minister’s health aide S.M. Ziauddin Haider, Health Services Division Secretary Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, and BUET Pro-Vice-Chancellor Muhammad Shariful Islam, alongside medical consultants from the Prime Minister’s Office.
