Preparations are in the final stages for the Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant to begin test transmissions to the national grid, with officials targeting an initial injection of approximately 300 megawatts as early as next month. Before the integration can proceed, the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority must conduct a rigorous review of all preliminary test results to ensure compliance with international safety protocols.
This milestone follows the successful loading of nuclear fuel into the reactor pressure vessel of the plant’s first unit, a critical phase completed on May 12. Once the ongoing technical evaluations are verified and the necessary regulatory approvals are secured, technicians will initiate the first controlled fission chain reaction within the core.
The activation of the reactor marks a significant transition toward commercial operations for the facility, which remains a central pillar of the nation’s efforts to diversify its energy portfolio.
