Road Project Funds Fuel Lavish Building Projects

A highway expansion project in Bangladesh, initially funded by foreign loans to upgrade the road from Elenga in Tangail to Rangpur, has reportedly incorporated extravagant amenities and unnecessary construction, raising questions about resource allocation.

The project, known as SASEC Road Connectivities Project-2, has seen the development of buildings earmarked for laboratory upgrades that instead feature facilities such as a multipurpose hall, seminar hall, conference hall, lounge, and over 150 rooms comparable to those in five-star hotels. These opulent structures are currently under construction within the road research laboratory area in Paikpara, Mirpur.
