Renewed Clashes Between Student Political Factions Erupt Across Dhaka Campuses and Hospitals

Fresh outbreaks of violence involving student political factions have erupted across Dhaka, leaving multiple people injured and heightening security concerns across the capital on Tuesday. The unrest followed a series of confrontations at Jagannath University, which escalated into a targeted attack at a local medical facility, while separate clashes occurred at Dhaka College and the Dhaka Alia Madrasa.

Tensions flared at the National Medical College, where members of the BNP, Jubo Dal, and the metropolitan unit of Chhatra Dal reportedly stormed the emergency department. According to eyewitnesses, the group targeted individuals affiliated with Chhatra Shibir and Chhatrashakti who were receiving treatment for injuries sustained during earlier skirmishes at Jagannath University. The assailants allegedly dragged at least one person from the emergency ward and assaulted them in the street. Security forces have since been deployed to the hospital to stabilize the situation.

Simultaneously, violence broke out in the capital’s Bakshibazar area, where members of Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir engaged in a running battle in front of the Dhaka Alia Madrasa. Witnesses reported that the groups pelted each other with stones and bricks beginning around 5:15 p.m., resulting in several injuries.

Further complicating the security landscape, a clash between Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir occurred inside the Dhaka College campus. Sheikh Zahidul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of the Ramna division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, confirmed that the altercation left several students injured. While police generally maintain a limited presence inside academic campuses, officers were dispatched to the scene immediately upon receiving reports of the violence to prevent further escalation. Authorities remain on high alert as the localized conflicts threaten to spread across student hubs in the city.
