An era of seven murders discussed in Narayanganj will be completed tomorrow Monday (April 27). But the relatives are spending their days in anger, frustration and uncertainty as the verdict of the trial has not yet been implemented.

Selina Islam, the plaintiff in the discussed murder case, lamented last Friday and told Prothom Alo, “The verdict has been passed, but the verdict has not been implemented – this is the biggest pain.” Not only the family of the deceased, but the countrymen also want to see this verdict implemented. We do not know why this judgment is pending in the Supreme Court. We have been in deep depression for an age. If the government wants, the verdict of the trial of the murderers will be effective.

On April 27, 2014, five people, including the then Panel Mayor of the City Corporation, Nazrul Islam, were abducted from Lamapara area of ​​Fatulla on the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road. Lawyer Chandan Sarkar and his driver Ibrahim were also abducted after seeing the matter of abduction. Three days after the abduction, the bodies of six and one more were found in the mouth of the Shitalakshya river. The other persons killed are Nazrul Islam’s friend Moniruzzaman Swapan, Liton, Tajul Islam and driver Jahangir Alam.

Selina Islam, the wife of Nazrul Islam, who was killed in the discussed incident, filed a case naming six people including Awami League leader Noor Hossain as the plaintiff. Chandan Sarkar’s son-in-law Vijay Kumar Pal filed another case at Fatulla Model Police Station as the plaintiff in the murder of lawyer Chandan Sarkar and his driver Ibrahim. The police investigated both the cases together and filed a charge sheet in the court.

Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge Court in the trial of the discussed case three former officers of RAB-11 (retired) Lt. 26 people including Colonel Tarek Saeed, Major Arif Hossain, Commander MM Rana, former Councilor Noor Hossain were sentenced to death and 9 people were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment. Later, on the appeal of the accused in the high court, on August 22, 2017, the court upheld the death sentence of 15 people, including Nur Hossain, three former officers of RAB, and 11 people were sentenced to life imprisonment and 9 people were sentenced to various terms.

Regarding the latest status of the seven murders case, Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge Court Public Counsel (PP) Abul Kalam Azad told Prothom Alo that the sensational seven murders case is currently at the leave to appeal stage in the High Court.

Abul Khair, the father of the deceased Tajul Islam, expressed the same frustration as Selina Islam, the plaintiff in the case. Jahangir’s daughter’s current age is about 12 years. He studied in sixth standard in a madrasa.

Expressing his anger, Samsun Nahar told Prothom Alo that seven people were killed because of Noor Hossain’s money even though they were members of the government law and order force. He demanded the government to take initiatives for speedy execution of judgments and stand by the families of the victims. “Seven of our families have been destroyed,” he added, noting that the girl had not seen her father since birth. Losing the head of the family, everyone has to live in financial crisis.

Sakhawat Hossain, the lawyer of the plaintiffs in this discussed case and convener of Narayanganj Mahanagar BNP, told Prothom Alo that the emotions of the people of Narayanganj and all over the country are involved in the incident of seven murders. The hearing was prolonged as the accused were special persons of the former fascist regime. This case will be resolved soon, it is the hope of the relatives of the deceased and the people of the country.

When contacted, the Attorney General said. Ruhul Quddus Kajal told Prothom Alo over the phone, “In the final analysis, just as the victims get justice, the accused also get justice – it is important to ensure that.” We will try to complete the hearing and settle this case as soon as possible.
