Rangamati University of Science and Technology Vice-Chancellor’s Office Lockdown Demanding Resignation
Rangamati Science and Technology University leaders and activists have locked the office demanding the resignation of the vice-chancellor. This incident happened around 12 noon on Tuesday. The leaders and workers of the University Vice-Chancellor Md. Four charges have been brought against Atiyar Rahman including irregularities in recruitment, insulting local culture, politicization of recruitment. They have also warned of strict action if the vice-chancellor is not removed or resigned within the next 48 hours.
Earlier at 11:30 a.m., the branch students held an emergency press conference on the university campus. The vice-chancellor’s office was locked after the press conference. However, the Vice-Chancellor is not present in the campus today. Several employees of his office said that the vice-chancellor is staying outside Rangamati on official work.

Nasir Uddin, convener of the university branch of the organization, read out a written statement at the press conference called by Chhatra Dal. He said that the present Vice-Chancellor since joining has turned the university into a family and political arena. He has been involved in recruitment fraud, financial irregularities and anti-ideological activities of the July mass coup.
In the press conference, the leaders gave the Vice-Chancellor 48 hours to resign. Nashir Uddin said that no activities will be allowed to continue in the vice-chancellor’s office and administrative office until he resigns. Due to this movement, any activities related to class examination and result of the university cannot be stopped. No negligence in the academic activities of the students will be tolerated.

Going to the ground, it can be seen that the gate of the entrance to the university’s vice-chancellor’s office is locked. The office staff is stationed at the Registrar’s office next door. However, none of the leaders and activists of the Chhatra Dal were seen at this time. According to the police, they left the campus area after locking it. On condition of anonymity, several employees told Prothom Alo that six employees were staying in the vice-chancellor’s office at the time of the lock. Later they were thrown out of the office.
University Vice-Chancellor Md. Atiyar Rahman’s mobile phone was called several times. But he did not receive the call.
When asked, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangamati Kotwali Police Station, Mohammad Jasim Uddin, who was present at the scene, said that they are on alert to avoid any untoward incident in the university area. At present, the law and order situation in the campus is normal.
