A tragic road accident in Qatar’s Shahaniya area has claimed the lives of six migrant workers, including five men from the Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet, Bangladesh. The victims were traveling to their workplace in a pickup van on Sunday morning when the fatal collision occurred, plunging their families back home into profound grief and economic uncertainty.

Among the deceased was 36-year-old Jibal আহমদ, a long-term expatriate who had been striving to improve his family’s modest living conditions. Jibal, who had never met his seven-month-old son, Talha, in person, had frequently connected with his family via video calls, promising to embrace his child upon his return. His death has left his wife, Bushra Begum, and five children in a state of desperation, with relatives noting that the family relied entirely on his remittances to survive.

The accident also claimed 30-year-old Jashim Uddin, a resident of Agtaluk village who had spent seven years working abroad. Jashim had recently built a semi-permanent home using a combination of personal savings and loans, and he was working in Qatar specifically to pay off the remaining debt. His family, including his elderly mother, wife, and two young children, now faces the burden of that debt alongside the loss of their primary provider.

As news of the tragedy reached Kanaighat, local households became hubs of mourning. The scale of the loss is particularly acute for families like Jibal’s, where the eldest son, 14-year-old Parvez, is now confronted with the burden of supporting his mother and four siblings. Relatives of the deceased have issued urgent appeals to the government to facilitate the repatriation of the victims’ remains and provide financial assistance to the bereaved families, who have been left without a primary breadwinner.

The other three victims from Kanaighat have been identified as 30-year-old Mostak Ahmed and 30-year-old Zubayer Ahmed, both from Majhtaluk village, and 24-year-old Kadir Ahmed from Gachbari Nayagram. The collective loss has devastated the local community, with neighbors and relatives gathering to offer support as the families struggle to navigate the sudden vacuum left by the disaster.
