Woman Jailed Following Fatal Stabbing of Man in Dhaka Over Marriage Dispute

A Dhaka court ordered a woman to be sent to prison on Sunday following the brutal murder of her boyfriend in the Mohakhali area of the capital. Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Sefatullah issued the detention order after the suspect, 30-year-old Beauty Akter, was brought before the court in connection with the death of 33-year-old Mamun Mia.

According to court officials, the investigating officer, Tareq Hasan, requested that the suspect remain in custody pending further proceedings. No bail application was filed on behalf of the accused during the hearing.

Case documents filed at the Banani Police Station indicate that the victim, a native of Ishwarganj in Mymensingh, had recently secured a position with Bangladesh Railways. His uncle, Moksed Ali Bhuiyan, noted that Mamun had joined the railway only a month ago and was living apart from his pregnant wife, who remains at their village home.

Investigators revealed that the victim and the suspect had maintained a clandestine romantic relationship for approximately a year. On July 10, Akter traveled to Dhaka under the pretense of seeking medical treatment and rented a room in a building near the Mohakhali TB Gate.

When the victim arrived at the residence the following morning, a heated dispute erupted as Akter reportedly pressured him to marry her. Police reports state that the confrontation escalated when the suspect used a sharp knife to inflict a severe injury on the victim’s groin. As the victim collapsed from significant blood loss, the assailant proceeded to stab him multiple times in the abdomen.

Neighbors alerted by the victim’s cries rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries that evening. Following the incident, Mamun’s uncle filed a formal complaint at the Banani Police Station.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect admitted to carrying out the attack. Police noted that the suspect sustained minor injuries during the struggle and received medical attention while in custody. Authorities stated that a formal request for remand to further interrogate the suspect is expected as the investigation continues.
