Prime Minister Tariq Rahman’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Zaheed Ur Rahman said that the committee is investigating whether there was negligence regarding measles vaccination or not. The investigation committee will be formed by coordination of those who work on vaccination and health among the state individuals and organizations and international individuals and organizations. This work will start very soon.

A regular news briefing organized to highlight the progress of the government’s activities was organized at the Information Directorate of the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday. The information and broadcasting advisor to the Prime Minister said this in response to the questions of the journalists there.

Measles and measles symptoms are causing child deaths every day in the country. More than 400 children have died of measles symptoms so far. Complaints have been raised that there was a shortage of measles vaccine during the previous government.

Earlier in a press briefing on May 5, the Information and Broadcasting Adviser said that efforts are being made to investigate the allegations of negligence against the previous government regarding measles vaccination.

In today’s news briefing, the journalists want to know that the investigation about the measles vaccine is going to be done, how many years will the vaccination period come? Who will be in this committee and what will this committee look at?

In response, the advisor said, “We have discussed with the Prime Minister that we will coordinate the state individuals and international organizations that work on vaccination or health. When the committee is formed, I will tell the people who are the members. We hope that the work will start very soon.

The Prime Minister’s advisor further said, ‘The inquiry committee will actually see why it was “lacked” and that this vaccination was not given – if you calculate it backwards, you will get when this negligence started…. If it was during the time of Awami League, then there is some information in front of us during the interim (interim government). We have heard UNICEF representatives in public interviews saying that they have warned the government that the way they are trying to procure (vaccines) could create a crisis. These are in their place. But his words are not 100% correct, the investigation committee will scrutinize everything.
