Prime Minister Tarique Rahman Defends National Interests Following Diplomatic Missions to China and Malaysia

Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman addressed the National Parliament on Saturday, reaffirming that his recent diplomatic missions to Malaysia and China were guided strictly by the principle of placing national interests above all else. His remarks followed the unanimous adoption of a motion of thanks by the legislature, acknowledging the outcomes of his state visits from June 21 to 26.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad formally welcomed the Prime Minister back to the chamber, commending the visits for establishing new horizons for the nation’s foreign policy and economic trajectory. The motion, introduced by Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, was passed via voice vote following an intensive debate that included contributions from Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Leader of the Opposition and Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Shafiqur Rahman.
In his address to the house, the Prime Minister emphasized that his administration operates under the foundational policy of “Bangladesh First.” He asserted that the primary mandate bestowed upon the government by the public is the protection of national sovereignty and the advancement of domestic prosperity. He framed his recent diplomatic engagements as a direct reflection of this commitment, aimed at securing favorable conditions for the citizenry on the international stage.
Reflecting on the parliament’s gesture, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the recognition but insisted that the success of the trip should not be viewed as a personal achievement. Instead, he attributed the diplomatic gains to the collective efforts of the nation, maintaining that any benefits derived from the visits belong exclusively to the people of Bangladesh.
The Prime Minister concluded his remarks by extending his appreciation to all members of parliament, specifically acknowledging the opposition leader for fostering a legislative environment that encourages robust advocacy for the country’s interests. He credited the bipartisan support as a critical source of motivation in his ongoing efforts to navigate the complexities of international relations in service of the Bangladeshi public.
