Police search for Dhaka madrasa student missing for two weeks

A teenage madrasa student has been missing for 13 days after vanishing from the Bibir Bagicha area of Jatrabari in Dhaka. Mohammad Yusuf, 18, was last seen leaving his family residence near the area’s No. 2 gate at approximately 6 a.m. on June 15.

The student’s elder brother, Mohammad Ibrahim, filed a formal missing person report with the Jatrabari police station on June 16. Despite extensive searches by the family, Yusuf’s whereabouts remain unknown. Originally from Mehendiganj in Barishal, the family resides in Jatrabari, while Yusuf studies at the Madinatul Uloom Islamia Madrasa in the Tilpapara area of Khilgaon. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a punjabi and pajama. Yusuf is described as having a dusky complexion and standing 5 feet 6 inches tall.

Ibrahim expressed deep concern regarding his brother’s prolonged absence, noting that the family remains in a state of anxiety. Authorities are currently investigating the case, though the lack of digital footprints has complicated the search.

According to Sub-Inspector Mohammad Abdul Karim of the Jatrabari police station, investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and pursuing multiple leads to locate the student. Karim noted that because Yusuf was not carrying a mobile phone or any other electronic device, tracking his real-time movements has proven difficult. Police maintain that efforts to locate the student are ongoing.
