Police launch homicide probe after hotel employee found dead in Coxs Bazar

Police in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, have launched an investigation into the death of a hotel employee whose body was discovered near the Inani beach on Wednesday night. The victim, 27-year-old Abdul Aziz, was found with visible injury marks in an open field adjacent to the staff quarters of the Bay Watch Hotel, where he had been employed for the past year to manage the establishment’s livestock.
According to Ukhiya Police Station officer-in-charge Atiqur Rahman Majumder, authorities recovered the body shortly after midnight. While the official cause of death remains under investigation, the presence of trauma on the victim’s body has prompted police to perform an autopsy at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
Aziz, a resident of Jummapara in the Jaliapalong Union, had last spoken to his wife, Saika Yasmin, via telephone on Wednesday morning. By early Thursday morning, the family received notice that his body had been located in the field near his living quarters. His family maintains that Aziz was deliberately murdered—potentially beaten or strangled—and has called for a thorough investigation to bring those responsible to justice.
Local political figures have also urged authorities to conduct a comprehensive probe into the matter. Sultan Mahmud Chowdhury, general secretary of the Ukhiya Upazila BNP, suggested that police should examine CCTV footage from the hotel premises to identify potential suspects and clarify the mysterious circumstances of the death.
Representatives for the Bay Watch Hotel have stated that they are unaware of how the incident occurred. Enayet Ullah, the hotel’s deputy general manager, confirmed that Aziz was a local employee tasked with overseeing the farm and noted that the hotel administration has no insight into the cause of his death. Aziz leaves behind his wife and three young daughters.
