Police investigate suspected land dispute murder in Netrokona

Police in Netrokona recovered the throat-slit body of a 35-year-old farmer from his home in Duani Dudhkura village on Sunday morning. Authorities suspect the victim, Mahful Mia, was murdered due to an ongoing land dispute with a neighbor.
According to family members and local residents, Mahful had gone to sleep alone in his room on Saturday night after finishing his dinner. His mother discovered the body at dawn after noticing the door to his room standing open. Upon entering with a flashlight, she found her son lying in a pool of blood, prompting her to call for help from neighbors. Investigators believe the attack occurred sometime between midnight and 4:45 a.m.

Senior police officials, including Additional Superintendent of Police Swajal Kumar Sarkar and Netrokona Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Abdul Khair, arrived at the scene shortly after the discovery to conduct an initial investigation.
Speaking to the media, Additional Superintendent Sarkar indicated that a long-standing land dispute between the victim and a neighbor, Shafiqul Islam, is the primary focus of the inquiry. While officials stopped short of naming a suspect, they noted that the motive appears linked to these property tensions. The precise circumstances and identities of the perpetrators remain under investigation.

The victim’s body has been sent to the Netrokona Sadar Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. Efforts to reach Shafiqul Islam for comment proved unsuccessful, as his mobile phone remained powered off. Local reports indicate that Shafiqul and his family have vacated their home following the incident.
