Police Arrest Five Over 12 Million Taka Armed Robbery in Dhaka

Police have arrested five suspects in connection with the daylight robbery of over 12 million taka from a fuel station in the capital’s Uttara area. The arrests were made during a series of operations across Dhaka on Friday night.
Authorities reported the recovery of weapons, ammunition, and other equipment used in the commission of the crime, along with a portion of the stolen funds. The investigation is ongoing, and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is scheduled to hold a press conference at the DMP Media Center on Minto Road on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. to provide further details regarding the suspects and the status of the case.
The robbery took place last Sunday morning when employees of DL Petrol Pump were traveling to a bank on Airport Road. As they approached the Crown Plaza area, a group of six to seven unidentified assailants intercepted their vehicle. The attackers reportedly used pistols to threaten the employees and assaulted assistant manager Mohammad Al Amin with a machete before seizing a bag containing 12,125,000 taka.
Following the attack, the injured assistant manager was transported to the Bangladesh-Kuwait Friendship Hospital for treatment. The station’s manager, Abdul Karim, subsequently filed a case with the Airport Police Station against the unidentified perpetrators.
According to case documents, the employees were transporting the cash from the petrol pump—owned by Taseen Akter Haque—to the Pubali Bank branch in Uttara Sector 1 when the incident occurred. Investigators suggest that the robbers were well-informed about the daily routine of the staff, indicating that the heist was likely premeditated.
