Narsingdi Stabbing Kills One Transgender Person, Injures Another

A transgender individual, Yasmin alias Sumon (27), was fatally stabbed and another, Chadni alias Babu (26), injured during an altercation at a chicken farm in Narsingdi’s Raipura Upazila late Sunday night, in what police suspect was a dispute over drug money. The incident occurred around midnight near the railgate of Pirijakandi village in Mirzapur Union.

Yasmin, identified as the child of Md. Robiullah, and Chadni, the child of Mintu Mia, both from Pirijakandi village, had been living together after leaving their family homes. Their residence was reportedly a mere five-minute walk from the crime scene.

According to Chadni’s account to police, a heated argument erupted around midnight between them and Md. Russel Mostofa (35), a worker at the chicken farm. In a sudden escalation, Mostofa allegedly stabbed both individuals before fleeing the scene. Yasmin died instantly from the injuries.

Mostofa, who had been employed at the farm for three years, reportedly had no national identity card copy or known address on file with farm owner Jakir Mia.

Police and local residents widely suggest the murder may have stemmed from a conflict over the division of drug business profits. Allegations persist that both the accused and the victims were involved in drug trafficking in the area.

Chadni’s cries for help drew local residents, who subsequently alerted police via the national emergency hotline, 999. Upon receiving the report, Raipura Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mujibur Rahman promptly arrived at the scene and recovered Yasmin’s body.

OC Rahman stated that the injured Chadni was initially transported to Raipura Upazila Health Complex. Following preliminary treatment, she was transferred to a private hospital in Dhaka, where she is currently receiving medical care. Yasmin’s body was sent to the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. An investigation has been launched to determine the precise motive behind the killing, and police operations are ongoing to apprehend the absconding suspect.
