BNP leader accused of beating UP chairman in Shariatpur

Teachers and guests were hoisting the national flag while singing the national anthem at a school function. Suddenly two people are beating a person with sticks. In such a situation panic spread between teachers and students. In fear, the children started running wild. The incident took place on Tuesday morning, in the Middle Sidya Government Primary School No. 36 of Sidya Union of Damudya Upazila of Shariatpur.
Union BNP vice-president Jasim Bepari has attacked Sidya Union Parishad (UP) chairman Syed Hadi Zillur. A video of the attack has spread on social media Facebook.

Jasim Babari admitted to the attack and told Prothom Alo, “UP Chairman Zillu Awami League did it.” Now that BNP is in power, why would he be a guest at the event? Now the guests will be BNP leaders. Seeing him at the event made me feel bad. Unable to control my anger, I attacked with bamboo. But he was not beaten. He did a lot of harm to me during the Awami League period. Broke my shop. The pond has been filled. He teased a lot. I was angry with him for these reasons.
According to local sources, the National Primary Education Medal competition for primary school students is underway. Union level competition of five schools of Sidya Union was held at Madhya Sidya Government Primary School No. 36 on Tuesday. Sidya Union Parishad Chairman Syed Hadi Zillu was inaugurating the competition program of the five schools of that union with the teachers. They were hoisting the national flag while singing the national anthem. At that time BNP leader Jasim and one of his associates attacked Hadi with two sticks. Later, the teachers present at the event rescued him and removed the attackers. Due to the incident, the National Primary Education Medal Competition held at the school was closed for two hours. The ceremony was later held in the presence of the police.

Madhya Sidya Government Primary School No. 36 is next to Jasim Babari’s house. Relatives of their families donated land to the school. There is a dispute between Jasim and the school authority over the school land. There has also been a case regarding this. UP Chairman Syed Hadi has stood for the school at various times in case related work. Apart from this, Jasim lost to Syed Hadi’s father-in-law for the post of chairman in 2016 UP elections. Jasim was angry with Hadi about these issues.
UP Chairman Syed Hadi Zillu told Prothom Alo, “I was singing the national anthem at an event. In such a situation, BNP leader Jasim and one of his relatives hit me with a stick. Local people saved me. I have reported the matter to the Upazila Nirbahi officer and the OC of the police station. The matter has also been informed to the local BNP leaders. I will take legal action.’
Abdul Jalil, headmaster of Madhya Sidya Government Primary School number 36, told Prothom Alo that the chairman was suddenly attacked during the national anthem at the beginning of the program. The school’s case is going on with Jasim Bepari regarding the land. UP Chairman has stood by the school at various times in these works. Because of these reasons, Jasim may be angry with the chairman.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Damudya Police Station Jahangir Alam told Prothom Alo that the police went there after receiving information about the attack on the UP chairman during a school function. The ceremony took place in the presence of the police. No written complaint has yet been received in that incident. Legal action will be taken if written complaint is received.
