Measles Outbreak Claims 840 Lives in Nation Since Mid-March

Three more children have died from measles-related complications within the last 24 hours, bringing the national death toll to 840 since the outbreak began on March 15.
According to the latest report from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the surge shows no immediate signs of slowing, with an additional 872 children falling ill during the same 24-hour period. Of these new cases, 121 have been laboratory-confirmed as measles, while the remaining 751 patients are exhibiting symptomatic signs of the virus.
The most recent fatalities occurred in the Sylhet, Mymensingh, and Rangpur divisions, where one child died in each region. Since mid-March, health officials have recorded 744 deaths among children presenting symptoms, while 96 children have succumbed to the disease after receiving a formal diagnosis.
Data provided by the health directorate indicates that 145,241 children have been affected by the outbreak since it emerged on March 15. This total includes 129,061 cases categorized by symptoms and 16,180 confirmed measles infections.
The influx of patients has placed significant strain on the medical infrastructure. Over the past several months, 111,674 children have been admitted to hospitals for specialized treatment. While 107,397 patients have since been discharged following recovery, the sustained rate of new infections remains a primary concern for public health authorities.
