Ludo Dispute Escalates Into Fatal Clashes in Brahmanbaria

A trivial dispute over a mobile game of Ludo spiraled into a fatal communal clash in Brahmanbaria’s Bijoynagar upazila on Saturday, leaving one man dead and at least 10 others injured. The violence erupted in the Baigda Bandarbari area of Harashpur Union, where deep-seated tensions between two local factions had been simmering for some time.
The conflict began on Friday afternoon when 26-year-old Yasin Mia, while playing a digital Ludo game, allegedly slapped an 11-year-old neighbor, Md. Nirob, for attempting to watch his screen. When Nirob’s father, 50-year-old Hamdu Mia, confronted Yasin to protest the assault, a verbal altercation escalated into a physical struggle in which Hamdu Mia reportedly struck Yasin with a stick.
Retaliation for that incident turned violent early Saturday morning. According to police reports, as Hamdu Mia was eating breakfast at his home around 9:30 a.m., members of Yasin’s family and their associates launched an armed assault on his residence. During the skirmish, a man identified as Liton Mia allegedly struck Hamdu Mia in the chest with a traditional weapon known as an *ekkaitta*, killing him instantly.
The situation quickly deteriorated into a wider confrontation as both factions armed themselves with machetes, knives, and clubs. The fighting, which lasted until approximately 12:30 p.m., resulted in the vandalism and looting of several homes. Among the at least 10 people injured were Md. Hasan, 8, Liton Mia, 35, Ershad, 40, Reju Begum, 35, Faruk Mia, 33, and Islam Mia, 30. The wounded received medical treatment at local clinics and the Bijoynagar Upazila Health Complex.
Bijoynagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Ahsan Ullah confirmed that police arrived on the scene and managed to bring the situation under control by early afternoon. The body of the deceased has been sent to the Brahmanbaria General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Authorities have deployed additional police forces to the area to prevent further unrest as the investigation continues.
