Measles Outbreak Claims 753 Lives in Bangladesh Since March

Three children died from measles and associated symptoms over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll since March 15 to 753. According to data released Saturday by the Directorate General of Health Services, the latest fatalities were recorded in Dhaka, Sunamganj, and Noakhali.

Health officials reported 786 new cases within the same 24-hour period. Of those, 84 cases were laboratory-confirmed as measles, while 702 children presented with symptoms consistent with the viral infection.

Since the surge began on March 15, the country has documented 124,011 total cases. This figure includes 13,410 confirmed measles diagnoses and 110,601 cases involving related symptoms. Of the total deaths recorded during this period, 93 were attributed to confirmed measles, while 660 children succumbed to associated symptoms.

The burden on the national healthcare system remains significant. Since mid-March, 93,491 children have been admitted to hospitals for treatment. As of Saturday, 89,762 patients have been discharged after recovering from the illness.
