Man fatally stabbed in Noakhali following dispute over local drug trade

A 50-year-old man was killed in a stabbing attack Wednesday night in the Kabirhat upazila of Noakhali, prompting local residents to apprehend two suspects and turn them over to authorities.
The victim, identified as Md. Faruk, a resident of North Sundalpur village, was attacked while drinking tea at a shop adjacent to the Sundalpur power substation at approximately 11:00 p.m.

According to police and local accounts, the dispute stemmed from Faruk’s opposition to the illicit drug trade allegedly operated by one of the suspects, 28-year-old Md. Arshad. Tensions had escalated after Faruk confronted Arshad over his activities. As Faruk sat in the shop, Arshad reportedly approached him from behind and stabbed him with a knife.
Emergency responders initially transported Faruk to the Kabirhat Upazila Health Complex before transferring him to the 250-bed General Hospital in Noakhali. As his condition deteriorated, doctors advised that he be moved to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced trauma care, but he succumbed to his injuries while in transit.

Witnesses at the scene intervened as the suspects attempted to flee, detaining Arshad and his accomplice, 18-year-old Md. Sajjad Hossain, before handing them over to Kabirhat police officers who arrived shortly after the incident.
Noakhali Superintendent of Police N.M. Nasir Uddin confirmed the killing and stated that the weapon used in the attack has been recovered. Both suspects are currently in police custody undergoing interrogation.
