Mamun Khaled in jail after remand in BNP activist Maqbul murder case

The court has remanded former Director General of Defense Intelligence (DGFI) Lieutenant General (retd) Sheikh Mamun Khaled to jail in the case of killing BNP worker Maqbool, including the attack on BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan of the capital.

The court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam gave this order on Monday. Defendant’s lawyer Morshed Hossain Shaheen gave this information.

Today, the police brought Sheikh Mamun Khaled to the court after the fifth round of remand in two cases. After the remand, the investigating officer applied for his detention. On the other hand, the defense lawyers applied for bail.

Sheikh Mamun Khaled was taken to the court at around 1:15 AM. He was standing with a bottle of water in his hand during the hearing. At this time, he tried to attract the court’s attention by raising his hand at least four times. After obtaining the permission of the court, he prayed for bail. After the hearing, the court denied him bail.

On December 7, 2022, a case was filed against Sheikh Hasina and 256 people for the attack on the central office of the BNP in Nayapaltan of the capital and the killing of a member of the party named Maqbul. A person named Mahfuzar Rahman filed the case at Paltan Model Police Station on September 30, 2024 as the plaintiff.

Sheikh Mamun Khaled was arrested on the night of March 25.
