“King of Rajbari” weighs 38 maunds, price is 15 lakh taka, farmers are worried about selling

The calf born from the cow of the house was raised by the farmer. It is now a huge bull weighing 38 maunds. The three-year-two-month-old black-and-white Australian Friesian bull will be sold at the Qorbani market. The bull has been named ‘King of Rajbari’ due to its shapely body and calm nature.
The owner of the bull is Mohammad Ali Sheikh, a farmer of Hossaindanga village of Kalimahar union of Pangsha upazila of Rajbari. But he is worried about whether such a big bull will be sold or not.

At Muhammad Ali’s house on Wednesday afternoon, it was found that the bull was tied with thick ropes on both sides inside a double-walled tin house. There is a calf with another medium sized cow in the house. There is a ceiling fan overhead and another fan in front of the room door. Two fans are running day and night like this.
The family members said that the bull is fed daily with wheat, corn, gram, rice powder, kheil, potato, grass and other grain food. The bull was never injected or fed any fattening drugs. Earlier he used to eat food worth 500 to 600 taka per day. From the age of one year, one has to pay Tk 1,000 to Tk 1,200 per day for food. Raised with love like his own child. His younger son Sahib Ali always takes care of the bull. Every day people come from different regions to see the bull.

Muhammad Ali said, “In 2008, I bought a cow from Jagti area of Kushtia for about 1 lakh 60 thousand taka.” The cow gives birth to a male calf. The calf grows up and gives birth to this bull. After a few months, if the cow becomes sick, we sell it. This bull used to drink 12 to 14 liters of milk every day until it was sold to the mother. We never sold her mother’s milk. Sometimes we eat something, but he eats the rest.’
Muhammad Ali told Prothom Alo on Sunday, “It is dangerous to keep such a big cow at home.” Terrorist activities have increased all around. So I brought the Raja of Rajbari to Gabtali in Dhaka for sale. Earlier, livestock officers used to come occasionally, advise. They measured with a tape a few days ago and found the weight to be more than 37 maunds. Now the weight has increased to more than 38 points. Asking 15 lakhs for sale. The price has already increased from 11 to 11.5 lakh taka.
Sajal Mondal, who came to visit from the neighboring village, said, “I have never seen such a big cow before in my life. Sometimes I come to see the cow. No matter how much I see, my mind is still not satisfied. So I come to see the cow again and again. Sometimes I even touch it with my hand.’
According to the Rajbari District Livestock Office, 8,872 farmers in the district have prepared about 70,000 sacrificial animals this year. Among them there are about 30 thousand bulls. There are about 40 thousand goats and sheep. The demand for sacrificial animals in the district is about 55 thousand. There is a surplus of about 18,000 cattle. These cows will be sold in different regions including Dhaka, Sylhet, Chittagong.
District Livestock Officer Prakash Ranjan Biswas said, ‘The bull grew up drinking its mother’s milk. Besides, axe, husk, chaff, raw grass and grain food were fed. It would be best if the cow could be sold locally. We have campaigned through various media including Facebook. I wish that the farmer gets the fruits of his tireless work.
