Jamaat worker killed in Satkaniya by masked men hitting him on head with hammer

A worker of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed by hammer of masked miscreants in Satkania of Chittagong. He died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chittagong city at around five o’clock in the morning on Monday. Before this, masked miscreants attacked him on the side of the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway at the head of Satkaniya road on Sunday around 11:00 pm.

Shahadat’s elder brother Mobarak Hossain told Prothom Alo, “A few months ago, joint forces arrested an identified terrorist from Yaba and Lohagara upazila from our area. His people suspected my brother of handing over that terrorist. They may be involved in the attack.

Describing the incident, Mubarak Hossain said, “There is a tea shop in Shahadat. At night he was sitting in his shop. At that time, a group of 15 masked terrorists came there in a CNG-driven auto-rickshaw. Then he hit Shahadat on the head with a hammer. The assailants fled when the local residents came forward at his screams. He was rescued and taken to a private hospital in the upazila and later to a private hospital in the city.

Upazila Jamaat Amir Kamal Uddin told Prothom Alo, “Shahadat is an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami.” He was always active in our program. I demand exemplary punishment for those involved in killing him like this.

Officer-in-charge of Satkania police station Manjurul Haque told Prothom Alo that the body has been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police are investigating the incident and trying to bring the attackers to justice.
