Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Shafiqur Rahman Calls for Balanced Ties with India and Urges Action Against Corruption

Opposition Leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman stated on Friday that while the Prime Minister maintains the right to visit any nation, including India, such diplomatic engagements must be grounded in principles of equality, mutual respect, and friendship. Addressing a member conference at the Rajshahi District Council auditorium, Rahman emphasized that the people of Bangladesh would no longer accept hegemony and insisted that bilateral relations with India must remain balanced.
Turning his attention to domestic governance, the opposition leader addressed the Prime Minister directly, asserting that as both the head of government and the head of the party, she possesses the authority to curb the prevailing issues of extortion, corruption, and bribery. He noted that the primary question remains whether there is a genuine political will to eradicate these systemic problems, as the administration has the capacity to stop these practices if it chooses to do so.
During the conference, which focused on the ideological foundation of Jamaat-e-Islami, Rahman urged party members to continue their efforts toward establishing a just society and state. Addressing upcoming local government elections, he called on party activists to remain vigilant, instructing them to stand by the public and ensure that the democratic right to vote is protected against any attempts at interference or disenfranchisement.
The event, presided over by Rajshahi Metropolitan Jamaat Ameer and Member of Parliament Keramat Ali and conducted by Secretary Imaz Uddin Mondal, featured several high-ranking party officials. Notable attendees included Central Nayeb-e-Ameer and Member of Parliament Mujibur Rahman, who served as a special guest, alongside Assistant Secretary General and Member of Parliament Rafiqul Islam Khan, Dhaka Metropolitan South Ameer and Member of Parliament Nurul Islam Bulbul, Assistant Regional Director Rafiqul Islam, Central Working Committee member Nazrul Islam, and Rajshahi District Ameer Abdul Khalek.
