Dinesh Trivedi, the newly appointed High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka this Friday to assume his diplomatic post. Senior officials within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the arrival timeline on Wednesday evening, noting that Trivedi will be accompanied by his wife, Mrinal Trivedi.

The appointment marks a significant shift in New Delhi’s diplomatic approach, as the 75-year-old former Union Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader becomes the first politician to represent India as High Commissioner in Bangladesh in over 55 years. His nomination to the role was first announced in April.

Trivedi succeeds career diplomat Pranay Verma, who has departed Dhaka to take up his new assignment as the Indian Ambassador to Brussels. The transition comes as both nations navigate a complex bilateral relationship, with New Delhi opting for a political appointee to lead its mission in the neighboring country for the first time in more than half a century.
