India invites Bangladesh to BRICS summit as BIMSTEC chair

India has formally invited Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, in his capacity as the current chair of BIMSTEC, to participate in the upcoming BRICS summit outreach session scheduled for September in New Delhi. The invitation marks a significant diplomatic overture, though the Bangladeshi government has yet to confirm its attendance.
High-level government sources indicated on Monday that a final decision regarding the Prime Minister’s participation remains pending. The matter is expected to be finalized following consultations between Prime Minister Rahman and Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman.
As reported by Prothom Alo, the government is currently evaluating the strategic implications of the invitation before formally responding to the Indian organizers. Should the Prime Minister attend, the summit would provide a critical platform for engagement with the influential BRICS bloc, further highlighting the evolving role of BIMSTEC in regional and global diplomatic forums.
