Health Ministry Reinstates License of Dhaka Hospital Following Newborn Deaths Investigation

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has reinstated the operating license of Ad-Din Hospital in Dhaka’s Moghbazar neighborhood, reversing a closure order imposed following the deaths of six newborns at the facility. The hospital had been shuttered for over a month after the tragedy occurred on May 27, prompting regulatory intervention.
The reversal was formalized in a notification issued Monday, signed by Md. Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, secretary of the Health Services Division under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The decision allows the hospital to resume its medical operations immediately, provided it adheres to three specific mandates.

Under the terms of the reinstatement, the hospital must ensure strict compliance with the Medical Practice and Private Clinics and Laboratories (Regulation) Ordinance of 1982. Furthermore, the facility is required to expedite the recruitment of dedicated on-duty doctors and nursing staff to bolster its clinical oversight. The ministry has warned that any failure to meet these conditions will result in immediate legal action.
