Fueling of the first unit of the power plant at Rooppur has been completed

The injection of nuclear fuel into the reactor vessel of the first unit of Rooppur nuclear power plant constructed at Rooppur in Pabna was completed on Tuesday. It is the final step before starting commercial power generation. Power generation will be started on an experimental basis step by step. 300 MW power supply to the national grid may start next August.
This information was informed in a press release sent today by the contractor company that built Rooppur power plant.
According to the notification, nuclear fuel loading has been successfully completed in the reactor vessel of the first unit of Rooppur Nuclear Power Project. 163 fuel assemblies have been introduced into the reactor in stages since fueling began on April 28. This is an important milestone on the way to start commercial power generation.
Rooppur Project Director and AtomstroyExport Vice President Alexey Deiri said the initial core loading program, operational regulations and international nuclear safety standards were strictly followed in this work. The next step will be to install the reactor top and attach the necessary in-core instrumentation system. All technical systems will then be tested numerous times to ensure reliable and safe operation.
The reactor will soon be increased in a phased manner after taking it to a minimum controllable power generation level, the release said. These processes will pave the way for the start of power generation in the first unit and pilot commercial operation.
Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is the largest single project in the country’s history. The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project is being implemented by the Atomic Energy Commission under the Ministry of Science and Technology. Under this project, two units of 1,200 megawatts are being constructed by Russian contractor Atomstroyexport.
