Formation of National Coordination Committee headed by Prime Minister to ensure social stability and security

In order to ensure social stability and security, a ‘National Coordination Committee’ has been formed under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tariq Rahman. The 11-member committee has Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed as vice-chairman, Prime Minister’s Defense Adviser Brigadier General (retd) AKM Shamshul Islam as chief coordinator.
This committee will determine the important issues, areas and scope related to social stability and security and take other necessary measures in this regard.
The formation of this committee was informed in a notification of the cabinet department on Thursday. The members of the committee are Cabinet Secretary, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister, Principal Staff Officer of Armed Forces, Inspector General of Police, Director General of Defense Intelligence (DGFI), Director General of National Security Intelligence (NSI), Director General of National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC) and Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
Apart from this, the committee will have Additional Inspector General of Police of Special Branch of Police (SB), Additional Inspector General of Police of Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Chief Officer of Bangladesh Bank Financial Intelligence Unit, Chief Executive Officer of National Security Cell, Additional Commissioner of Police of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit and Additional Commissioner of Police of Anti Terrorism Unit as supporting officers. If necessary, members or supporting officers may be co-opted for a fixed period of time in the committee.
The scope of work of the committee also includes formulating an integrated action plan on the issues determined by the committee to ensure social stability and security, determining the scope and field of law enforcement forces and organizations, reviewing existing laws and regulations and recommending amendments and reforms if necessary and making new laws and regulations, and taking regular supervision measures of all types of fields, organizations and online platforms determined by the committee and accordingly coordinating and giving necessary instructions between the intelligence and law enforcement forces.
Committee meetings are scheduled to be held every three months or at least once every month. NSI will provide necessary manpower and infrastructural facilities related to Secretariat of the Committee. However, according to the decision of the committee, any other intelligence agency or law enforcement agency or organization can perform the duties of the secretariat of the committee for a specified period of time as per the instructions of the president.
A separate notification convened the Home Minister to reconstitute the ‘National Committee on Coordination, Management and Law and Order of Forcefully Displaced Myanmar Citizens’.
