Foreign Minister Khalilur in Mauritius to attend the Indian Ocean Conference

The Minister of Foreign Affairs arrived in Port Louis to participate in the ninth Indian Ocean Conference. Khalilur Rahman. He is expected to hold bilateral meetings there and seek support for Bangladesh’s bid for the UN General Assembly presidency.

The summit, which began on Friday in the capital of Mauritius, will bring together leaders, policymakers and experts from the Indian Ocean region to discuss regional cooperation, shared responsibilities and future governance structures.

A senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “It is expected that the Foreign Minister will hold a meeting with the ministers of the participating countries on the sidelines of the conference.”

He also said that Dhaka wants to use this platform to garner support for Bangladesh’s candidature for the post of President of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (2026-27).

Advisor to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir is accompanying the Foreign Minister.

The conference is being held as a joint initiative of the India Foundation, the Government of Mauritius and the Ministry of External Affairs of India.

India’s foreign minister. S Jaishankar is also attending the conference and is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.

On the invitation of Jaishankar, Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal will also address the event.

The Indian Ocean Conference, which started in 2016, has now become an important platform for discussions on issues of mutual interest and regional cooperation comprising about 30 countries.
