Murder of pregnant wife 26 years ago, husband sentenced to death

The court sentenced a man named Abdul Jalil Howladar to death for killing his 9-month pregnant wife 26 years ago in Khilgaon of the capital. The judge of Additional Metropolitan Session Judge Court-13 of Dhaka today Thursday. Zahidul Islam announced the verdict.

Apart from the death penalty, the accused has been fined 50 thousand rupees. As the accused Jalil was absconding at the time of the verdict, the court ordered the issuance of an arrest warrant against him. Advocate Abul Kalam Azad confirmed this information.

According to the summary of the case, the body of Akalima Begum was found on May 26, 2000 in a house in Khilgaon area. Akalima was 9 months pregnant. His brother-in-law in that incident. Mintu Gazi filed a case at Khilgaon police station.

It is said in the complaint that Akalima had a fight with her husband Jalil due to a marital dispute the night before the incident. A person named GM Babul saw Jalil wandering around in a state of confusion on the street from 12:30 pm to 5:30 am that day. Jalil was on the run since the incident.

After investigating the case on June 14, 2001, the police submitted a charge sheet to the court against the accused. During the trial of the case, the court accepted the testimony of six persons. This judgment was given today after a long judicial process.
