Dhaka police arrest man for alleged rape of teenager in Pallabi

Police in Dhaka have arrested a 50-year-old man on charges of raping a 14-year-old girl in the capital’s Pallabi area. The suspect, identified as Anwar Hossain, was taken into custody after local residents detained him following the discovery of the unconscious victim.
According to a press release issued by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning. The teenager was reportedly intercepted by Hossain at approximately 2:40 a.m. while she was returning to her home from an outdoor latrine. Authorities state that the suspect gagged the girl, forcibly dragged her into his residence, and assaulted her after rendering her unconscious with a pillow.
The victim was later discovered abandoned and in a state of undress by a local resident who was heading to perform ablutions. Upon hearing the resident’s calls for help, neighbors and family members rushed to the scene and transported the girl to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for urgent treatment.
Police officials reported that the victim had been subjected to persistent harassment and inappropriate overtures from the suspect prior to the assault. Following his detention by the local community, officers from the Pallabi Police Station arrived at the scene to formally execute the arrest. A case has been filed against Hossain under the Prevention of Women and Children Repression Act.
