Two brothers from Laxmipur, who had traveled to Saudi Arabia to secure a better future for their family, were laid to rest in their home village on Tuesday following a fatal road accident in Dammam. The bodies of 29-year-old Foyez Ahmed Sajib and his 21-year-old brother, Farhad Hossain Sujon, arrived at their ancestral home in Gonipur village late Monday night, months after their dreams of prosperity were cut short.

The tragedy occurred on the night of July 15 when the brothers were returning from a date orchard. According to the family, the pickup truck transporting them lost control and slammed into a stationary lorry on the roadside, killing both men instantly. The repatriation of their remains was delayed by extensive legal procedures in Saudi Arabia.

Hundreds of mourners, including local representatives and residents, gathered on Tuesday morning at the Kamarhat Mosque ground in Chandraganj to offer funeral prayers. The brothers were subsequently buried side-by-side in their family graveyard, leaving their community in profound grief.

Sajib, the eldest, had been living in Dammam for years, working in the date trade. Seeking to alleviate his family’s financial burdens, he had brought his younger brother, Sujon, to Saudi Arabia earlier this year. Their father, Abdul Malek, expressed deep despair, noting that he had taken out loans to fund their migration in hopes of securing a stable future. He stated that the debt remains unpaid and the sudden loss of his two sons has left him in an unimaginable state of devastation.

The loss of the family’s primary breadwinners has cast a shadow of severe economic uncertainty over the household, which also includes Sajib’s wife and his two-year-old son. Local residents remembered the pair as hardworking, kind-hearted individuals whose presence was deeply valued in the community.

Chandraganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nilufa Yasmin Nipa extended her condolences, describing the loss of both brothers in a single incident as a heart-wrenching tragedy for the village.
