A child drowned in a nearby pond while playing in the courtyard of a house in Comilla’s Laksam. This incident took place in Pawtali village of the upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
The child’s name is Ibrahim (6). He is the son of Mosharraf Hossain of Paotli village of Ajgra union in Laksam.

According to family and local sources, Ibrahim left the house on Tuesday afternoon and went to play in the courtyard of the house. Family members started searching after not seeing him for a long time. At one point, the relatives saw the child floating in a pond near the house around 1:30 p.m. When he was rescued and taken to Laksam Upazila Health Complex, the doctor declared him dead.
Laksam Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Nazia Binte Alam confirmed the incident and said that the child was brought to the hospital dead. Doctors at the hospital’s emergency department confirmed his death after an examination.
