Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrest 529 in citywide crackdown

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 529 individuals during a series of anti-crime operations conducted across the capital over a 24-hour period ending Wednesday night. The sweep, which spanned from midnight Tuesday to midnight Wednesday, resulted in the filing of 30 separate criminal cases across various police stations.

According to a press release issued by the DMP on Thursday, the arrests were distributed across the city’s administrative divisions. The Mirpur division recorded the highest number of apprehensions with 133 suspects, followed by Wari with 83, Tejgaon with 67, Gulshan with 56, Motijheel with 53, and Uttara with 54. Additionally, 39 individuals were detained in Lalbagh and 35 in the Ramna division. Specialized units also contributed to the operation, with the Detective Branch and the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit accounting for eight and one arrest, respectively.

During the raids, law enforcement recovered a cache of illicit items and weaponry. The seized materials included two foreign-made pistols, three magazines, seven rounds of ammunition, 367 yaba pills, 100 grams of cannabis, six mobile phones, and a switchblade knife.

Authorities confirmed that the legal process regarding the detainees is currently underway as police continue their investigation into the incidents.
