Prime Minister Tarique Rahman officially inaugurated his daily schedule at the Secretariat on Thursday by presenting appointment letters to three individuals with disabilities, a move designed to promote their economic independence and integration into the national workforce.

The recipients of these appointments include Ayesha Akter from Gaibandha, Nila Khatun from Sirajganj, and Md. Hasmat Ali from Narail. According to Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu, the initiative underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that individuals with physical and sensory challenges are provided with equal opportunities to contribute to society.

The appointment process highlights the remarkable perseverance of the candidates. Nila Khatun, who was born without arms, has already completed her postgraduate studies by writing with her feet and has now been appointed as a teacher at the National Foundation for the Development of the Disabled in Mirpur. Similarly, Ayesha Akter, who also earned a postgraduate degree through her writing ability using her feet, received her appointment letter—which she accepted using her mouth—for a position as a class supervisor at the BIAM Laboratory School and College in Gaibandha. Md. Hasmat Ali, who is visually impaired, has been recruited as a union social worker under the Department of Social Services.

The ceremony was attended by Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain, State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmeen, Social Welfare Secretary Mohammad Abu Yousuf, and other senior officials from the relevant ministries and foundations.

Following the event, Abdus Sattar Dulal, founder of the Bangladesh Disabled Welfare Association, met with the Prime Minister to express his gratitude for the initiative. For the three new employees, the day marked not only the beginning of their professional careers but also a significant milestone in their personal journeys toward inclusion and self-reliance.
